大月のサンゴ
栢島周辺の透き通った海には、約1,000種の熱帯魚と温帯魚が生息していることが知られています。この島は町の先端にあり、暖かい黒潮と豊後水道の海水がぶつかる場所にあります。この海域の魚の種の数は、日本全国で最多です。

古満目は日本最大となる300メートルものシコロサンゴ大群落で有名です。
観音崎には日本一のキノコ様のヒメエダセンベイサンゴ群体が生息しています。

The Corals at Otsuki
About 1,000 species of tropical and temperate fish are known to live in the crystal clear sea around Kashiwajima, an island at the very edge of the town, where the warm Kuroshio Current collides with the waters of the Bungo Channel. The diversity of fish species here is the greatest in all of Japan.

Komame is famed for its 300-meter wide cluster of Pavona decussata corals, the largest in Japan.
