四国のジオパーク
四国は沈み込み帯と呼ばれる地域に位置しています。沈み込み帯とは、海洋プレートが大陸プレートの下に沈み込む地域を指します。双方のプレートが数千万年かけて動くことで、様々な地層が形成され、それぞれが四国の島の様々な地点の地盤となっています。土佐清水は現在ジオパークとしての認定を目指していますが、四国の他の地域にはすでに現在ジオパークの認定を受けているところも複数あり、また現在認定を目指しているところもいくつかあります。

Geoparks in Shikoku
Shikoku is located in a so-called subduction zone, where an oceanic plate descends beneath a continental plate. The movement of these tectonic plates over tens of millions of years has formed a wide variety of geological strata, which make up the bedrock of differing regions throughout the island. Tosashimizu is aspiring to be acknowledged as a geopark, while other regions in Shikoku are currently designated geoparks, with several more in the process of being recognized as such.
