Farmers’ Markets
Hiroshima is famous for its okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) made and eaten off the griddle, but a wide variety of fresh food is also available in the city. While farmers’ markets are a popular place for local residents to pick up groceries, they also offer hot street food and ready-to-eat snacks for visitors.
The Hiroshima Asaichi morning market is held under the trees in the Green Zone on Peace Boulevard every Sunday from 8:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. Local farmers come to sell seasonal fruit and vegetables alongside stalls offering homemade sushi, sweets, baked goods, flowers, pickles, and more. The lineup changes depending on the time of year, meaning everything available is fresh.
At Hiroshima Port, the Minato Marche is held on the first and third Sunday of every month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in summer). This farmers’ market is like a local food festival, with cooked oysters and seafood, mushrooms, tempura, and even live music and dance performances. In summer, food trucks also sell kakigori (shaved ice).
