Welcome to the Hakone Visitor Center
Hakone is part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and is a landscape resulting from volcanic activity continuing over hundreds of thousands of years. Remarkably diverse plant and animal life flourishes in its varied environments, from deep-green forests like those along the shores of Lake Ashi to barren, otherworldly scenes like the slopes of Owakudani, where volcanic fumes rise constantly into the air.
The Hakone Visitor Center introduces the natural features, topography, and history of Hakone and provides information about ways to explore the area, either independently or in the company of a guide. An interactive diorama gives an overview of the mountainous landscape. Seasonal displays present a guide to the plants, birds, and insects to be spotted in the vicinity. Course maps are available for planning hikes or pleasant strolls. The Center provides space for rest and relaxation, and is the hub of activities for Hakone park volunteers, who lead guided tours in the area.
