National Park Volunteers
Local volunteers play a crucial role in the management and maintenance of Japan’s national parks, working in tandem with Park Rangers from local offices of the Ministry of the Environment. There are approximately 1,500 National Park Volunteers nationwide who contribute their time and energy to protection and conservation efforts. Volunteers engage in a wide range of activities in this southern section of Sanriku Fukko (Reconstruction) National Park under the direction of Park Rangers. Among these are basic maintenance tasks such as repair and cleaning of the facilities, as well as larger ongoing functions like patrolling the Michinoku Coastal Trail, cutting grass and disposing of fallen trees, conducting plant surveys, and removing invasive plants.
