Arita Será (Detailed)

Arita Será is a large open-air shopping mall that specializes in Arita ware. The facilities were originally created in 1975 for members of the Cooperative of Arita Ceramics Wholesalers to use as storage and a wholesale market. Retailers and restaurateurs came to buy large quantities of stock directly from wholesalers. However, as the demand for porcelain from Arita declined in the 1990s and 2000s, many kilns began selling directly to customers and many wholesalers transitioned to business-to-consumer sales.

In 2018, the commercial park was reborn as Arita Será. Será is a word combining the Japanese pronunciations of “seller” and “ceramics.” The mall was designed as a space to spend leisure time while shopping for ceramics. In addition to the twenty-two specialty shops, there is a restaurant and boutique hotel. Arita Será is the largest Arita porcelain shopping mall in Japan, and likely the only one of its type in the world. The Arita Porcelain Market, one of the town’s largest events and the largest ceramics fair in the country, is held here every spring.

Each shop carries products from multiple kilns, and their selections include daily use tableware, commercial items, gifts, and high-end art objects. The managing cooperative of Arita Será has also worked with some of the kilns in Arita to create Takumi-no-Kura, an original line of household ceramics. Created to reflect the needs of producers, retailers, and consumers, items from the line are available in some shops for set prices.

　アリタセラ（Arita Será）は、有田焼を専門に扱うオープンエアの大型ショッピングモールです。もともとは1975年に有田焼卸団地協同組合が保管・卸場所として使用するために開設したものです。小売業者や料理店主らが卸業者から大量の在庫を直接購入しようと訪れていました。しかし、1990年代から2000年代に有田産磁器の需要が減ったことから、多くの窯元が顧客への直接販売を始め、多くの卸業者も一般消費者向け販売に移行しました。

　2018年に卸団地はアリタセラ（Arita Será）として生まれ変わりました。セラ（Será）は、「seller （セラー）」と「ceramics （陶磁器）」の日本語での発音を組み合わせたものです。このショッピングモールは、陶磁器の買い物をしながら余暇を楽しむことができる空間として設計されました。22の専門店に加え、レストランやブティックホテルもあります。アリタセラ（Arita Será）は、日本最大の有田焼ショッピングモールであり、おそらく世界でも唯一のショッピングモールです。そして、毎年春にこの場所を含む有田町内全域で開催される有田陶器市は、有田町で最大級のイベントで、国内最大級の陶器市です。

　各店舗は複数の窯元の製品を取り扱っており、日常使いの食器、業務用商品、贈答品、高級美術品などを取り揃えています。また、アリタセラ（Arita Será）を運営する協同組合は、有田町内のいくつかの窯元と協力して、家庭用陶磁器のオリジナルシリーズ「匠の蔵」を作りました。生産者・小売業者・消費者のニーズを反映して作られたこのシリーズの商品は、一部の店舗において定価で購入することができます。
