Engetsuto Island
Engetsuto (meaning “round-moon island”) has a 9-meter-wide hole, through which the setting sun aligns perfectly during the spring and autumn equinoxes.
It was once part of a chain of islands, but continued erosion has left only the islet we see today. Just off the coast of Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, this charming islet is a popular sunset spot.
