Office of Tourism Nation Promotion

In order to enhance the structured effort towards building a tourism nation, the Office of Tourism Nation Promotion was established with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (the minister in charge of tourism nation-building) as the head and with a membership consisting of vice ministers of each office and ministry. There are three working teams under the auspices of this office, to handle specific adjustments and coordination among the government organizations concerned. 

Intent

Building a tourism nation is an important challenge that should be positioned as one of the pillars of Japan’s future growth strategy. However, an even more robust cooperation among government organizations is essential in order to drive our efforts in a unified and comprehensive manner. We have there fore established the Office of Tourism Nation Promotion in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to further enhance the structured effort towards building a tourism nation.

Overview

This office is headed by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (the minister in charge of tourism nation-building), and consists of vice ministers of all office and ministries. Three working teams have been established in the office, to handle specific adjustments and coordination among the government organizations concerned.

Working Team for Attracting International Visitors

The purpose of this team is to resolve issues related to attracting international visitors, including the problem of tourist visas from China. The working team coordinates the government ministries and agencies involved for this purpose.

Tourism Cooperation Consortium

This team explores comprehensive measures to promote new tourism as implemented by several government ministries and agencies in cooperation, for a diverse menu of tourism options including medical tourism.

Working Team for Well-Distributed Vacation Time

Distributing vacation times produces a number of results, such as reduction of travel cost by means of evening out demand, and increased productivity and more stable employment for the tourism industry. This team will enable the government ministries and agencies concerned to explore the issues and coordinate their efforts.
