Bronze ornaments
Important Cultural Property
Researchers believe these ornaments of gilded bronze once hung on the walls at Muryōkōin Temple or adorned Buddhist statues there. They may have been tied together with beaded strings, as shown in the reproductions of beaded strings here. These ornaments are some of the few remaining artifacts that attest to the splendor of Muryōkōin, built by the third Fujiwara lord Hidehira (1122?–1187).
