Nikko National Park
Nikko National Park covers 1,148 square kilometers and includes sections of Tochigi, Gunma, and Fukushima prefectures. It was established as one of Japan’s first national parks in 1934.
The park includes the World Heritage Shrines and Temples of Nikko, as well as many other historic buildings. These magnificent structures convey a sense of Nikko’s culture and history, and they are enhanced by the surrounding natural beauty that changes with the passing seasons.
The park’s many mountains, lakes, waterfalls, wetlands, and hot springs are the result of volcanic activity that shaped the area long ago.
