Lake Iruka
Lake Iruka is an artificial agricultural reservoir located in the Hida-Kisogawa Quasi-National Park in the Iruka area of the city of Inuyama. The lake is always bustling with fishermen.
In 1628, six men who would later be called the “six men of Iruka” submitted a permit to develop the lake to the Owari domain (now part of Aichi Prefecture) via the attendant retainer who belonged to the Naruse family of Inuyama. They soon received permission to begin construction. The village of Iruka of the Niwa District was located in the area at the time, but the residents were forced to move. Construction of the reservoir began in 1632 and was completed in 1633.
