Bicycle Sharing in Hiroshima
With many bicycle paths and parks, Hiroshima is an ideal city for cycling. Cycling is not only more scenic than other transport options but is also the fastest way to get to many popular tourist destinations.
The city has its own automated electric bicycle (e-bike) rental service. Called Peacecle, a combination of “peace” and “bicycle,” the service has more than 100 docking ports (rental stations) around the city. All the bicycles are equipped with electric motors, allowing riders of all skill levels to ride with ease.
To rent one of the e-bikes, sign up for an account on the Peacecle website and link a credit card or contactless travel card (like Suica or ICOCA) for payment. Then head to one of the rental stations and choose a bicycle. Enter the e-bike's ID number into the Peacecle website to get an unlock code. (Travel card users can simply tap their registered card onto the contactless panel.) Then get on the bicycle and get out and about in Hiroshima. The bicycle can be temporarily parked and reused. When you are finished riding, return the e-bike to any of the rental stations and make sure to dock it properly. An email will confirm that the bicycle has been successfully returned.
Rentals are charged based on the amount of time between unlocking the bicycle and returning it. For longer rides, consider purchasing a one-day pass for unlimited Peacecle trips in a 24-hour period.
