Wind Garden
A Green Crown Jewel
The Wind Garden (Kaze no Gaaden) is part of the extensive Prince Grand Resort Furano complex. It was created in 2008 by Ueno Sayuki of Ueno Farm as the primary set for a television drama called Kaze no Gaaden.
Visitors to the Wind Garden are driven there from the resort. The long and winding path from the entrance, once part of a golf course fairway, evokes the atmosphere of the television drama once filmed there. Flowering arches, towering trees on grassy expanses, benches, and even the house built for the show seem to fit naturally together.
When Kaze no Gaaden soared in popularity, the author of the original work, Kuramoto So, decided to establish a school here for aspiring actors and scriptwriters called Furano Juku (Furano School). Two former students later became the head gardeners at the Wind Garden. They cultivate 450 varieties of flowers, including tulips, lupines, helenium, snowdrops, phlox, and roses. Two new rose varieties created here and named after characters in the show can be found in the Rose Garden.
The Wind Garden offers easy access to all the other resort facilities and activities. The latter include hot-air balloon tours, Segway tours over the hills, “ground golf” on a 36-hole course, and shopping and eating options at Ningle Terrace. (Elves called “ningles” apparently inhabit this area and come out at night to tidy up the resort and garden.)
The Wind Garden is open daily between late April and mid-October from morning to evening.
