中島跡
12世紀に造られた無量光院庭園に3つある島の中で、もっとも大きな島が中島です。ここには、京都の平等院鳳凰堂を模したとされる、阿弥陀堂が建っており 、北小島に渡る橋によって岸につながっていました。
記録によると、無量光院の阿弥陀堂は、細部まで鳳凰堂と類似していましたが、中島の発掘により、鳳凰堂には存在しなかったタイルの一種が地面に敷かれていました。

Nakajima, the Central Island of Muryokoin Temple
Constructed during the twelfth century, the Central Island (Nakajima), is the largest of the three islands in the Muryokoin Temple garden. Originally, the Central Island held an Amida Hall modeled after the famous Phoenix Hall at Byodoin Temple in Kyoto, and was connected to the shore by means of bridges that crossed over the northern island (Kitakojima).
Although some records indicated that the Amida Hall at Muryokoin Temple was identical to the Phoenix Hall in every detail, excavations of the Central Island revealed brick paving that did not exist at the Phoenix Hall.
