1650年から1750年の間に作成された岐阜城の見取り図によると、この長く平らな場所は、馬を係留したり、囲い込む場所 馬場として使われていたと考えられる。 1717年に岐阜城を訪れた尾張藩の藩士によると、上級家臣や客はこの場所に馬を置いて徒歩で城の上部へ向かったようである。

Based on this map of Gifu Castle created sometime between 1650 and 1750, this long, flat area is thought to have been used as a place for hitching and corralling horses. According to a member of the Owari Clan who visited the castle in 1717, high-ranking vassals and guests would dismount and leave their horses here before walking to the castle’s upper sections.
