岩手山山頂の高山植物
岩手山の火口丘は、不動平でみられるような砂利質の地域とカルデラ内部の湿った地域という対照的な環境から成っています。この非常に異なる二種類の地域は、どちらも寒さ、強風、そして雪にさらされています。
厳しい環境条件にも関わらず、過酷な気候に適応したさまざまな高山植物が生育しており、夏に岩手山の山頂地域まで登ると、高山の花が咲き乱れる景色を見ることができます。これらの標高の高い場所に生育する植物は、6月から8月まで花を咲かせ、7月に最盛期を迎えます。

Alpine Plants of the Summit of Mount Iwate
The volcanic cone of Mt. Iwate is comprised of contrasting environments: there are sandy, gravelly areas like that found at Fudodaira, and wet, marshy areas inside the caldera. These two very different habitats are both exposed to cold temperatures, strong winds, and snow.
Despite the harsh environmental conditions, a variety of alpine plants adapted to the challenging climate flourish, and views of alpine flower meadows reward those who climb to Mt. Iwate’s summit area during the summer. These high-altitude plants bloom from June until August, peaking in July.
