1階
1階は食糧や火薬、武器などの物資を備蓄する場所として使われた。通路が広く、狭間が多いため、兵士は城を守るために素早く身構えることができた。この階では、16世紀の基礎部分の地下柱跡や、火災から城を守ったとされる魚型の鯱瓦など、城の建築にまつわる展示を行っている。
2階
2階には倉庫があり、軍隊の集合場所として使用された可能性がある。東、南、西の各壁には厚い格子の窓があり、そこから敵軍を撃退するための屋根付きポジションとなっていた。この階には、地元の銃砲愛好家である故赤羽通重・か代子夫妻から寄贈された「松本城銃砲コレクション」が展示されている。このコレクションには、16世紀から19世紀後半にかけての和洋の銃器や小物類が幅広く収められている。
First Floor
The first floor was used to stockpile supplies such as rations, gunpowder, and weapons. Its wide corridors and many loopholes allowed soldiers to quickly position themselves to defend the castle. This floor has displays related to the castle architecture, including a section of an underground post that was part of the original sixteenth-century foundation and a pair of fish-shaped shachi roof tiles that were believed to protect the castle from fire.
Second Floor
The second floor has additional storage space and an area that could have been used for assembling troops. The thick-latticed windows on the eastern, southern, and western walls gave defenders covered positions from which to fire down on enemy forces. This floor holds the Matsumoto Castle Firearm Museum, which includes a wide variety of both Japanese and Western firearms and accessories from the sixteenth through the late nineteenth centuries. The museum collection was donated by the late Akahane Michishige and his wife, Kayoko, a local duo of firearm enthusiasts.
