Shigaraki Kogen Railway
This small railway offers visitors a chance to ride on a ninja-themed train while taking in views of the surrounding countryside. The Shigaraki Kogen Railway runs between the stations of Kibukawa and Shigaraki, which is the gateway to the major pottery-producing area of Shigaraki. The six stations on the single-track line are served by a one-carriage train that completes its journey in 24 minutes. Parts of the carriage are wrapped in dynamic images of ninja on the outside, while ninja motifs also decorate the carriage interior, adding to the fun of the trip.
As you ride, watch out for figures of tanuki (Japanese raccoon dogs) dressed as ninja lined up on the platform at the stations. The comical ceramic figures are a symbol of good luck and are one of the signature products of Shigaraki.
Please note that the ninja-themed train on the Shigaraki Kogen Railway runs on an irregular schedule and that the ninja decorations on the train and at stations may change periodically.
