Namahage Performance, Part 7: The Namahage Logbook and the Grandchild

The answer to our question comes in the form of a book that one of the Namahage suddenly produces. This is a Namahage logbook, in which the sacred beings record everything they observe throughout the year. They look down at the village from nearby Mt. Shinzan and see which children cry or disobey their parents, and which villagers shirk their duties. The Namahage remind the head of the household that they know everything, no matter how hard he tries to hide the truth. Taken aback, their host suddenly becomes wary.

The Namahage flip through their logbook and start questioning the head of the household on matters relating to his grandson. Although this boy, Ichiro, goes to school every day, the Namahage note, he always gets into trouble for teasing his classmates. And at home he plays games instead of doing his homework. His grandfather appears incredulous, assuring the Namahage that Ichiro does study after he’s done with his games, but to no avail: the logbook says otherwise. Shaken, the head of the household promises to see to it that his grandson will focus more on schoolwork and less on play in the coming year.

7. 오가신잔 전승관: 공연, 나마하게 장부 이야기: 손자

나마하게는 장부를 넘기며 가장에게 손자에 대해 묻기 시작합니다. 이 이치로라는 남자아이는 매일 학교에는 가지만 동급생을 놀려서 항상 문제를 일으키고 있다고 나마하게가 지적합니다. 그리고 집에서는 숙제를 하지 않고 게임에만 빠져 있다고 말합니다. 할아버지의 얼굴을 한 가장은 믿기 어렵다는 표정으로 게임이 끝나면 공부도 확실히 하고 있다고 나마하게에게 말하지만 그 변명도 무색하게 장부에는 그렇지 않다고 적혀 있습니다. 이에 동요한 가장은 손자가 내년에는 학교 공부에 더 집중하고 놀이를 줄이도록 가르칠 것을 약속합니다.
