Birds of Urabandai

A wide variety of birds live in the Urabandai area. Japanese green woodpeckers (Picus awokera), Bohemian waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus), ruddy kingfishers (Halcyon coromanda), Siberian blue robins (Luscinia cyane), and narcissus flycatchers (Ficedula narcissina) have all been spotted here. Urabandai is recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International and its bird populations are protected.
