Yonama Beach: Kaihin Koen Seaside Park
A coral reef just offshore protects the lagoon and beach here from strong waves and currents, so the reef, rock pools and ocean waters are full of sea life. Sea turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs, so fencing is sometimes erected to protect their breeding areas.
Facilities
Canoes, paddle boards, and other leisure equipment are available for hire from the Amagi-cho B&G Kaiyo Center. The swimming pool, featuring a water slide, is open from July 20 to the end of August.
Events
This beach serves as the starting point for the swim section of the Tokunoshima Triathlon, the island’s biggest event, which is held every year in late June. Boat races are held annually on a day in late July or early August as part of the Amagi Matsuri festival.
Bungalows
The six bungalows here sleep five each and are available for rent at reasonable rates throughout the year.
