Hojo
The Hojo was originally the residence of the abbot of the temple. The architecture is simple and contrasts with the opulence of the Karamon Gate. Today, the hall is used for ceremonies and for public zazen (seated meditation) workshops.
The Hojo was moved to Kenchoji Temple in 1940 from Kyoto’s Hanju Zanmai-in Temple, where it had served as the main hall. Visitors are welcome to walk around the verandah of the building, which is a good vantage point for viewing the garden in the rear.
