日光のバードウォッチング
奥日光は、湖や川、草原や湿地、森が組み合わさった土地です。またその標高の影響もあり、(奥日光の)中では多種多様な鳥を観察することができます。ある調査によると、奧日光を含む日光地域では栃木県内で見られる野鳥の約７割を観察できることがわかっています。(例えば)湖に生息するカモなどの水鳥、湿地に住むオオジシギ、渓流にみられるカワガラスなどがそうです。また森の中では、キツツキの仲間やフクロウなども一般的です。

Birdwatching in Nikko
The combination of lakes, rivers, grasslands, wetlands, and forests, and the impact of altitude means that within the confines of Oku-Nikko there is a very wide variety of birdlife to be seen. Research has shown that around 70% of the wild birds in Tochigi Prefecture are to be found in Nikko and Oku-Nikko. There are ducks and other aquatic birds in the lake habitats, Latham’s snipes (Gallinago hardwickii) which make their home in the wetlands, and brown dippers (Cinclus pallasii) which can be spotted around the mountain streams. Woodpeckers and owls are common in the forests.
