田島弥平（1822年 - 1898年）の住居と蚕室は1863年に建てられた。「やぐら」と呼ばれる彼自身がオリジナルに追加した建築を特徴としている。やぐらは空気の流れを制御するために開閉することができる窓が並んでいるメインルーフのてっぺんに建てられた高い屋根である。1階は家族の居間として機能し、2階は養蚕業に使われた。ユネスコの世界遺産に登録されているこの住居には、まだ田島の7代目の子孫が住んでいる。家族の住居の内部は入館者には開放されていないが、建物の外側、敷地の見学や、古い農具やカイコの繭のサンプルを展示している桑倉庫に入ることは許可されている。

Tajima Yahei’s (1822–1898) residence and silkworm farm were built in 1863 and feature his own original architectural addition called a yagura. A yagura is a raised roof built on the peak of the main roof that is lined with windows that can be opened or closed to control air flow. The first floor served as the family’s living area while the second floor was devoted to sericulture. The residence, a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site, is still home to the seventh generation of Tajima’s descendants. The interior of the family home is not open to visitors, but they are allowed on the property to view the exterior of the building, the grounds, and to go into a mulberry storage building that displays old farm tools and samples of silkworm cocoons.
