左の尾根にあるV字型の切り込みは、ホリキリと呼ばれる人工の要塞だった。 このような塹壕は城に通じる道を横切って掘られ、侵入者の進歩を妨げるために切り落とし可能な木製の橋が架けられていた。

The V-shaped cut in the ridge to the left is man-made form of fortification called a horikiri. Trenches like this were dug across the path leading up to the castle and were bridged with wooden bridges that could be collapsed to hinder an invaders’ progress.
