Seeing the Fuji Five Lakes by Bus
The Fuji Five Lakes region has an extensive bus network. The three color-coded bus lines that run from Kawaguchiko station are designed to suit the needs of tourists.
The Red Line follows the shoreline of Lake Kawaguchiko from the southern end of the Kawaguchiko-ohashi Bridge to the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center on the north side. The stretch along the northeast shore, from stop 14 to stop 17, is home to several museums, including the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, which exhibits music boxes, and the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. The Red Line runs on a schedule of four buses per hour.
The Green Line, with two buses per hour, goes west along Lake Kawaguchiko’s southern shore past Fuji Omuro Sengen-jinja Shrine, then loops around Lake Saiko and through the peaceful Aokigahara Jukai Forest. Disembark at stop 45 for the Saiko Bat Cave, or stop 51 for the Fugaku Fuketsu Wind Cave.
The Blue Line travels even further west, bypassing Lake Saiko to trace the winding northern shore of Lake Shojiko before turning back at Lake Motosuko. Stop 86 is the Kodakifuji Observation Point, and the Panorama-dai Observation Point is a short climb from stop 88. One Blue Line bus departs per hour.
The Fujiyoshida/Oshino/Yamanakako Sightseeing Bus goes east from Kawaguchiko station on a long circuit through Oshino, past the Oshino Hakkai Springs, and around Lake Yamanakako.
Finally, the Mt. Fuji World Cultural Heritage Site Loop Bus is a 70-minute ride with recorded narration that passes historic sites like Oshi Lodging Houses and Kawaguchi Asama-jinja Shrine.
