Japan, in cooperation with International Maritime Organization (IMO), organized the Ship Recycling Seminar: Towards Sustainable Ship Recycling, on 3rd February 2016 in London. About 90 participants from 24 countries, from shipowners to recyclers and government officials, attended the seminar. Participants discussed ongoing efforts to improve ship recycling in South Asia and ship recycling policies of various governments (ship recycling countries, flag countries and so on) in depth.
The purpose of the seminar was to get together stakeholders who have interests in improving ship recycling, in particular, in South Asia, to share experiences and lessons learned, to discuss further actions to enhance safe and environmentally sound ship recycling, and to promote early ratification of the Hong Kong Convention.
