OBAMA'S OCEAN & FISH
The waters along the winding ria coast of Obama are filled with an abundance of sea life. Rivers and streams bringing nutrients from the mountains empty into the ocean, and the combination of cold and warm waters supports fish, shellfish, and other harvest of the sea in great variety.
The Wakasa willowy flounder (karei) and Wakasa horsehead tilefish (guji) of Obama have earned brand-name status. In landlocked Kyoto to the south, Wakasa willowy flounder have been highly valued for centuries, and are even now presented to the emperor’s household every winter.
