Mt. Osorakan
Mt. Osorakan is the highest peak in Hiroshima Prefecture at 1,346 meters. Its slopes draw skiers from December to March and provide cool greenery for escapees from the city from April to November. Mt. Osorakan has four ski slopes of varying degrees of difficulty, with a 420-meter difference between the highest and lowest points. The terrain and the snow combine to form both gentle slopes and tougher humps. Skiing and snowboarding are the most popular sports, but visitors can also try activities such as snow rafting or snowshoeing. Ski gear can be rented on the mountain.
In the green season, visitors can zip-line down the grass-covered slopes or go rafting in the nearby ravine. The weather is cool and comfortable in the summer months, and is ideal for camping—an affordable and eco-friendly way to spend the night in the mountains. The campground at Mt. Osorakan provides cabins and tents, allows for car camping, and is run on solar and wind energy. The area is surrounded entirely by forest, assuring campers boundless views of the night sky when the weather is clear.
