Isshi and Kusshi: When Monsters Meet
In 1983, Japan’s two most famous legendary lake creatures met on the waters of Lake Ikeda. The legendary local monster Isshi met Kusshi, who is said to reside in Lake Kussharo, a caldera lake in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture.
Approximately 3,000 spectators, as well as renowned manga artists such as Tezuka Osamu, watched large models of Isshi and Kusshi leisurely tour the lake together on a raft drifting through fog created by dry ice. The models were 2.6 meters tall, 4.5 meters long, and 1.5 meters wide.
