Healthy Land
In and around Ibusuki there are approximately 1,000 onsen hot springs, but the sand baths are the most unusual and sought after by visitors. At the Healthy Land resort, you can experience this local tradition, as well as take a dip in the onsen.
After getting changed into a yukata (cotton kimono) provided by the facility, visitors lie down on the geothermically heated sand on the beach and let staff cover them with hot sand. Visitors can relax and enjoy fabulous views of Mt. Kaimon from the Yamakawa natural steam sand bath, called Sayuri. Set right on the coast, this Kagoshima-style wellness treatment gives new meaning to being immersed in nature!
Another hot spring nearby, Tamatebako Onsen, offers panoramic views of Mt. Kaimon from the traditional Japanese-style baths, along with uninterrupted views of the sky and sea. You can also opt for Western-style baths with a view of Mt. Takeyama.
