Hibakara wears armor like most of the other figures in the set of Eight Kinds of Mythological Beings, but unlike the others it does not have a boyish face. Instead, it has a full beard.

Hibakara is associated with a class of beings from Hindu mythology referred to as mahoraga, which are sometimes described as snakes, or musicians with snakelike attributes. In Japanese Buddhism, the name Hibakara is unique to Kofukuji and is more commonly called magoraga.

This work is dated to 734 and was made by the hollow-core dry-lacquer sculpting technique.

和這組八部眾立像中的大多數塑像一樣，這尊畢婆迦羅像也身披鎧甲。但與眾不同的是，它不但不是少年面容，還有一把絡腮大胡子。

身為八部眾之一，畢婆迦羅出自印度教神話中的摩睺羅伽，它們有時被描繪為大蟒，有時是身具蟒蛇特性的樂師。在日本佛教中，它們通常被稱為「摩睺羅伽」，只有興福寺這一尊塑像稱「畢婆迦羅」。

這件作品出自西元734年，以幹漆夾纻法製成。
