Tebineri (Handmade Pottery) Experience
The tradition of forming pottery by hand (tebineri), rather than using a potter’s wheel, continues to flourish in Takasago. In this two-hour workshop, participants can create a plate, coffee cup, mug, or other piece of pottery using the kilogram of clay provided. The clay comes in various colors, including white, black, light blue, green, and pink.
The workshop is run by a local potter who is a veteran of the craft. Participants can use string or a bamboo tool to decorate their creations. Once the item is finished, it is left to dry at the workshop. Later, artisans will glaze and fire the items and send them to participants within 30 days of the workshop (shipping to domestic addresses only).
The workshop is held at Musubin’s event hall each Thursday starting at 10:00 a.m. The fee for participating, including materials and postage, is ¥3,000 per person. Reservations are required; send an email to work_shop@takasago-tavb.com, or apply through the Takasago City Tourism and Visitors Bureau website.
