Kamado Shrine Juyosho
Welcome to Kamado Shrine’s juyosho (facility for selling amulets and good luck charms). This is a very modern take on the traditional juyosho found at other shrines. The building is the product of international collaboration and designed by Katayama Masamichi of the Japanese interior design firm Wonderwall. The light pink marble of the interior walls is imported from Portugal. British designer Jasper Morrison designed the terrace bench and chairs. This international collaboration continues a long tradition of Dazaifu’s involvement with the wider global community from 1,300 years ago when Dazaifu was the gateway to the Asian continent and a hub of international diplomacy.
The juyosho has an extensive range of colorful amulets offering good fortune in love as well as protection during childbirth and when traveling. Write your prayers or wishes on ema (wooden votive plaques) and hang them in the shrine grounds as an offering to the enshrined deity. The cherry blossom motif on the ceiling alludes to the shrine’s crest. This cherry blossom design contrasts with the plum blossom image that prevails in the Dazaifu area.
