Hōbaru Azalea Garden

At the foot of Mt. Takaiwa (881 m), the southernmost of Unzen’s peaks, the Hōbaru Azalea Garden is an inviting spot to relax before climbing the mountain.

Azaleas, called tsutsuji in Japanese, are prized in Unzen. In fact, the Kyushu azalea (miyama-kirishima) is known as the Unzen azalea on the Shimabara Peninsula. This flowering shrub, which thrives in the acidic soil at the base of the ancient volcanoes, is famed for the bright pink and purple flowers it produces in May.

Great efforts are made to keep this area an excellent spot for strolling and picnicking; caretakers frequently clear away any encroaching grasses or trees so that the beautiful azaleas can remain the focus. Farther up the hillside are platforms that offer panoramic views of the garden below and the mountains beyond.

寶原園地（寶原杜鵑園）

寶原園地（寶原杜鵑園）位於雲仙岳最南端的高岩山（881公尺）腳下，是散步和野餐的好去處。

島原半島上大量自然生長著長崎縣花「深山霧島」，屬於杜鵑花科，又被稱為「九州杜鵑」或是「雲仙杜鵑」。它們從5月初開始綻放，艷麗的紫色、紅色和粉色花朵覆蓋整片園地，吸引許多遊客前來賞花。

繼續往上走到山坡上的觀景台，便可以將山下的杜鵑園和遠處的群山盡收眼底。

宝原园地（宝原杜鹃园）

호바루 원지

운젠다케 최남단, 다카이와산(881m) 기슭에 있는 호바루 원지(호바루진달래공원)는 산책이나 피크닉을 할 수 있는 멋진 곳입니다.

나가사키현의 꽃이자 시마바라반도에서는 운젠 진달래로 알려져 있는 진달래와 동종 ‘미야마키리시마(규슈의 진달래꽃)’가 많이 자생하고 있습니다. 5월 초순경부터 꽃을 피워 공원 안을 분홍색, 보라색, 빨간색 꽃들로 가득 메우기 때문에 많은 사람들이 꽃을 구경하러 방문합니다.

구릉을 더 올라가면 눈 아래에 정원과 그 끝에 있는 산들의 파노라마가 펼쳐지는 전망대가 있습니다.
