Kamado Shrine—matchmaking support in this atmospheric woodland shrine
The beautiful grounds of Kamado Shrine overlook Dazaifu City. Climb the stone steps to the inner complex where the sweeping cypress roofs and wooden buildings of the shrine blend in with their woodland surroundings. The enormous camphor tree has stood here for centuries, and the shrine grounds are a popular spot for viewing the cherry blossom in spring and autumn foliage in fall.
The shrine is dedicated to the deity of love and matchmaking, Tamayori-hime, and many visit to seek good fortune in future and existing relationships. Purchase an amulet from the juyosho for additional good fortune.
The striking architecture of the juyosho is the work of one of Japan’s leading designers, Katayama Masamichi. The interior design features a blend of Portuguese pink marble and cherry-blossom motifs where you can choose from among a wide range of amulets offering various kinds of divine protection. You can write wishes on an ema, a wooden votive plaque, and hang it in the shrine grounds. Relax on the terrace outside the juyosho for beautiful views of Dazaifu. The terrace chairs and bench designed by British designer Jasper Morrison add a distinctly modern element to the centuries-old shrine setting.
