Ryokakutei Teahouse
Ryokakutei is one of two teahouses that can be found on Ninnaji’s grounds beyond the Honbo-omotemon Gate. Both are designated Important Cultural Properties.
Ryokakutei is another Ninnaji structure that was transferred from another site. It is said to have been moved from the historical home of potter and painter Ogata Korin (1658-1716), which was located nearby the Omuro Gate. Despite its original design as part of a residence, it displays many of the requisite elements of an independent teahouse. For example, it features a crawl-in (nijiriguchi) entrance. The teahouse is generally closed to the public, but groups can make reservations ahead of time to learn about its architectural features from the outside and tour its secluded gardens.
